BUILDING ACCESSORIES

If the October issue inspired you to try your hand at building, here are a couple of accessory items that might give you an extra hand or two.

Stickits

Stickits are best described as small wooden washers that help T‑pins hold balsa sheets or strips tightly to the building board. These laser‑cut pieces are 1/4‑inch in diameter and come on sheets of 72. After breaking one free from the sheet, a T‑pin pushes through the hole in the center, giving you more surface area to hold your assembly firmly in place. A sheet of 72 Stickits is $2.50.

Strip Clips

Strip Clips are a new way to build a box‑type fuselage. These laser‑cut clips consist of two interlocking pieces that create a clip that will hold 1/16‑ through 1/4‑inch strips to your building board. Notches on the top and bottom of each clip let you simultaneously build both sides of your airframe without removing them from the board. Precut holes in each clip allow them to be held in place with two T‑pins. A set of 50 clips is $10. Sizes can be mixed when ordering.

SCALE DOCUMENTATION

Casemate, in conjunction with Kagero, has released two product lines of aircraft documentation guidebooks: the Red Series and Mini Top Colors. These guidebooks are unusual because they include waterslide decals printed in various scales for all of the aircraft featured in the publication. The Red Series includes 1:48‑scale decals, while Mini Top Colors provides decals in 1:72, 1:48, and 1:32 scales.

  • The Red Series Mustangs over Europe Part 1 is 12 pages in full color (except for five archive photographs of the three P‑51 Mustangs featured). Illustrations show top/bottom and left/right profiles.
  • The 16‑page Fw 190s over Europe guidebook covers eight paint schemes.
  • Last Hope of the Luftwaffe: Me 163, He 162, Me 262 is 16 pages and covers 10 aircraft.
  • Mini Top Colors includes more aircraft and decals in three sizes but does not provide the archive photos found in the Red Series.

These guidebooks are marketed to builders of plastic models and provide text in English and Polish. They cover aircraft colors and markings and include pilot and unit details when available.
