S Pylon Racing 0 Dave Lane CONGRATULATIONS order Ron Schoor reelected NMPRA presi dent second term Boy some guys really glutton punishment Good luck 1977 Ron area VPs Rumor has Glenn Spickler will come out retirement run Pylon event Nationals year QM F-l fliers planning en ter year should have some great racing weather March AFB August will hot dry smoggy usually 10 15 Kt wind afternoon sun will over back straightaway between num ber number two pylons field elevation 1533 ft above sea level main runway 13300 ft long secon dary runway about 7500 ft long should have enough space set hot machine down Beware hot density altitude could around 2200 ft above sea level have flown Fain osa near Bakersfield density altitude hot day usually around 1000 ft planes should go well temperature stays 80s will probably 90s Watch nitro mix couple issues back talked about fuel tank installation QMs Lets dis cuss Formula installation real ly isnt different except now have add third line pressure line connects pressure fitting crankcase backplate sure fitting upper left-hand corner backplate looking forward See Fig #1 PRESSURE FITTING BACKPL ATE FIGI racing recommended use crankcase pressure rather muffler pipe pressure important main tain pressure line no pin holes cracks kinks etc line thing will ruin day leaking pressure line engine either wont start will run erratically prob ably quit before can finish 10 laps pressure line tank can either original vent line third line can fill tank removing pressure line engine See Fig #2 use two lines disconnect both lines filling tank figure three lines give 33% chance trouble needs trouble trying get ready next heat PRESSURE FIG 2 fuel pickup Formula usu ally fixed-type rather clunk-type affords backup shut-off system case needle valve shut-off servo fails dont have throttle mula aircraft like QM no idle rule F-l maybe should Most guys use wire loop pinches fuel line against firewall rules state shall have posi tive fuel shut-off said listen flutter Nine times out ten flut ter due loose control surface install hinges very careful alignment tight several hinges available local hobby shop like flat one-piece nylon hinges about 012 thick material very durable flexible can install practically invisible hinges come strips about 6 long Cut strips one-in segments drill 6 holes three side hinge line See Fig #4 sure slot surfaces 0110 II II 0 0110 FIG 4 hinged centerline stab elevators fin rudder aile rons should hinged 1/16 top surface wing aileron See Fig #5 HINGE ~LIZER ELEVATOR HINGE AlL ERO FIG 5 cut slot hinge re move
