Welcome back to the “RC Giants” column. Thank goodness the winter of 2013-2014 is a thing of the past. It seemed as though it was never going to end.
Although the weather was miserable throughout most of the US, it may have given some readers an opportunity to complete a Giant Scale project. If so, send me some photos and I will be happy to share them.
It’s nearly time for Warbirds Over Delaware 2014. As an avid participant for the past 22 years, I can guarantee it is the largest warbird event on the East Coast. It takes place July 9-12 at Lums Pond State Park in Kirkwood, Delaware, and is hosted by the Delaware R/C Club. Here’s an excerpt from the club’s website:

“The Delaware R/C Club is proud to host the Warbirds Over Delaware R/C airshow event every summer! For over 22 years the Delaware R/C Club has sponsored this warbirds event which attracts modelers from all over the country!
“All aircraft flown during the event hours must be a Scale warbird and meet IMAA [International Miniature Aircraft Association] specifications of an 80-inch wingspan for monoplanes, a 60-inch wingspan for multiwing aircraft, or 1/4 scale or larger. From vintage WW I aircraft to modern jet fighters, you will be sure to experience the thrill of it all! Both flying and static displays will be available for spectator viewing.”

For more information about this wonderful event, visit the Delaware R/C Club website.

WRAM Show 2014
One of the newest vendors at the Westchester Radio Aero Modelers (WRAM) Show 2014 was a company named All-Scale Models. At All-Scale Models you will find many products and services to build, equip, finish, and accessorize your latest project. The company specializes in scale jets, helicopters, warbirds, and high-performance sport aircraft.
Their Voy-Tech series of RC multifunction displays (MFD) and heads-up-display (HUD) screens brings an unprecedented level of realism to your model’s cockpit. Fully autonomous animatronic pilot figures and cockpit lighting take realism to an even greater level.
All-Scale strives to duplicate as closely as possible the function, look, and even sound of a full-scale cockpit display and MFDs. You have the option of ordering each display with a combination of content that is either military or general-aviation related. You can put a moving GPS map in your dashboard, or an authentically scale Garmin glass cockpit, a sweeping radar, or a forward-looking infrared (FLIR) camera and weapon’s screen for your fighter.
Organic light-emitting diode (OLED) screens utilize the latest technology. Each pixel is independently lit, offering a 180° viewing angle and premium brightness that is visible even in the brightest of direct sunlight. These displays are equivalent to that of a quality cellular smartphone screen. Screens are available in various sizes, including 26mm x 26mm, 26mm x 34mm, 20mm x 14mm, and 43mm x 57mm.
All-Scale also makes custom screens based on displays not listed online, so email All-Scale Models with any inquiries as to custom sizing. For more information about its list of ground-breaking products, please visit the company’s website.
Along with Robart Manufacturing, Inc.’s great line of landing gear for model aircraft, the company offers the latest and greatest from the ZAP line of adhesives and accessories. Some of its newest products include a 15-minute epoxy that fills the gap between the 5- and 30-minute epoxies currently offered.
Robart also has a new silicone tape that is extremely flexible and aggressively sticks to itself. It is great for tank or battery installations. For more information, visit the Robart website listed in “Sources.”
Aviation Concepts displayed its current project: a massive, 1/3-scale Schweizer SGS 2-33A sailplane. The sailplane spans 204 inches with a 103-inch fuselage. It builds the same way as the 1/4-scale version and will be available in the fall. To follow the prototype build, please visit the RC Aero Towing website, listed in “Sources” and search for “Schweizer.”
For more information about Aviation Concepts or its many fine products, visit the company’s website.
The remaining photos are of some of the magnificent models found in the static display at this year’s WRAM Show.

That’s all for this month. See you in August.
