above equipment and two IR 36s (flaps), two HS-85s (ailerons), one JR 341 (rudder), and one HS-225 (stab) driving the surfaces.
The kit came very complete. Building is limited to mounting your radio gear in the wing and opening up the servotray for your desired servos. That's it!
The wing wiring harness comes prebuilt in place with the 9 db (multiple connector) plugs mounted for unit/steakly interface. In the fuselage there are IR/VHF plugs for your receiver to plug and play.
"A selection of servo/gearcases for the wing are available. This gives the builder options in the way the wing linkages are set up. There are no exposed linkages on the NYX.
"The NYX comes with a really clever adjustable tow hook that can be adjusted from outside the fuselage. I never had one of these in a model before and would never have another model without one.
"The ballast system is well thought out.
On my version, there is a tube that runs from the servotray to aft of the wing. Both the tube and the servotray are premounted. The tube allows combinations of wood and steel slugs to be loaded for your weight requirements and then a center rod is run down through the slugs and threaded into the aft end of the ballast tube. Everything is tightened up to really load up the model if you want.
"To compliment the NYX run anything that I have been flying; i.e., 7005- and 7060 powered TD models, the flight envelope is definitely expanded. Because of the stiffness and the cleanness of the model, launches are really spectacular. Launches are the highest of any model I have ever had. The low end is good, and the L/D is spectacular. I have always felt the 7000 airfoil could cover ground well, but there is no contest here.
"The third day out, I had flown back with a large electric powered MHS2 winged glider in a pretty brisk wind. When we broke off the thermal and headed home the NYX showed its stuff. I had no ballast in, so I am guessing that the other model had higher wing loading, but the NYX was the one that easily made the field first. Landing is good too, since you can get a lot of flap throw, the NYX slows down much better than most and it is a very understrip controllable off the wing."
The NYX looks like it will be a serious contender in F3J, F3F, and F3E. With the evolution that it is geared to give to American Thermal Duration sport holding. It will be right at home in the hands of Thermal Duration pilots with an aggressive style. By aggressive, I mean launch hard, zoom high, range out, and find little marks to go to. In my opinion, this is not an airframe that will float out as much unless you find some lift.
