DID JULY ever start off with a bang—no pun intended! The National Aeromodeling Championships (Nats) started off with an unofficial event: Radio Control (RC) Combat.
The weather didn't cooperate the first few days, but the rain stopped and it was beautiful with sunshine and low humidity after that.
The number of contestants was up this year from last year's count.
An Executive Council (EC) meeting was held in the new administration building July 9. Prior to the meeting, the Nominating Committee gathered to select the candidates for the offices of AMA president and vice presidents in Districts I, V, and IX.
Motions passed in the EC meeting can be found on page 133.
Election ballots for the offices I listed will be mailed first-class to all adult members in the middle of September and will be accompanied by a postpaid return ballot. Returned ballots need to be postmarked no later than November 9, 2001.
Please take time to read each of the candidate's statements. If you have questions about any of the statements, send me a note and I will forward it to the candidate so he can respond.
When voting, do not return the ballot to AMA Headquarters; it must be sent to AMA's auditing firm: Brady, Ware, and Schoenfeld, Inc.
Ballots received at AMA will not be counted and will be destroyed. We generally receive nearly as many ballots at Headquarters as the auditors receive.
Remember that you need not renew your membership at the same time. Vote, then renew.
This is a very serious issue. Members of the Executive Council are your voice; they deal with every issue of the Academy, current and long-range.

To that end, we are introducing the AMA Ambassador Program. Sign up three new Open members (or former members), and we will give you full credit for the next year's membership fee. Current AMA Life Members will receive an AMA merchandise credit of equal value to a one-year free membership.
You get a great deal, and we all share the benefits of an even more powerful organization!
Any active AMA member is eligible to participate in the program. You can earn more than one free year by signing up additional members in increments of three!
New members whom you recruit must pay the full Open membership rate, currently $48, or the Senior Citizen rate that includes a $10 discount.
The sponsoring member's name and AMA number must be clearly identified on each new member's application. Contact the Membership Department and request the special applications to be used.
This program has generated 777 new members since its inception in January 2001. Fifty-six Ambassadors have sponsored at least three new members; seven Ambassadors have signed up enough new members to receive a two-year free membership; and two Ambassadors have enlisted enough members to be credited with three years of earned membership.
Thanks to the Ambassadors for doing a fine job. Let's see if other AMA members will take the challenge to enroll others.
