172 MODEL AVIATION
The Academy was born during the Golden
Age of Aviation in 1936. Seventy-five years
later the hobby and sport have changed
considerably. What has remained is that AMA
continues its leadership role helping the
aeromodeling community in dozens of ways.
Join the RC, FF, and CL communities, in
celebrating this remarkable achievement, as
well as the 85th Nats, during a celebration at the
IAC and Horizon Convention Center in
Muncie, July 14-17. Watch the website for fun
flying day and night.
Pilots will receive a commemorative Tshirt.
Fly for a chance to win $75 every hour of
open flying. Enjoy the 85th Nats, which will be
taking place on site.
Vendors will be available along with
special exhibits and flying demonstrations.
We’ll have special guests and speakers along
with dinners, banquets, and more.
For vendor information, visit http://ama
75.com/ama-75th-anniversary-event. To read
more about camping on-site and RV utilities
available, visit www.modelaircraft.org/
aboutama/camping.aspx. Call the AMA at
(800) 435-9262, extension 0 for camping
reservations during regular business hours,
Monday through Friday or e-mail Wendy
Cummins at [email protected].

I’ll end this column on a sad note. Many of
you who have visited or flown at the IAC have
met Jeff Hoover, a long-time member of the
maintenance staff and formerly a customer
service representative. I’m sad to relay that Jeff
passed away in late March.
Jeff’s presence on-site will be sorely
missed. His organizational skills and attention
to detail helped so many events run seamlessly.

only have a short column this month. As
always, between trade shows, Executive
Council meetings, planning the events
that will be held at the International
Aeromodeling Center (IAC) this summer,
processing memberships, answering
inquiries, and more, we are busy at AMA!
Looking for a job? Are you willing to
relocate to Muncie, Indiana? AMA posts
openings on our website. Recent or current
positions have been available in public
relations, marketing, publications, and
computer technology. Modeling experience
is always a plus! If you are interested
in working for AMA, please visit
www.modelaircraft.org/aboutama/hr.aspx.
I still want to encourage any member who
has an email address to please notify us. We
do not sell our lists, but in order to get into
the Members Only section of our website, a
current email address has to be on file.
Join AMA to celebrate 75 years of
aeromodeling leadership and 85 years of the
National Aeromodeling Championships
(Nats)!

I
Mission Statement
The Academy of Model Aeronautics is a world-class association of modelers organized for the purpose of
promotion, development, education, advancement, and safeguarding of modeling activities.
The Academy provides leadership, organization, competition, communication, protection, representation,
recognition, education and scientific/technical development to modelers.
Because Jeff was an avid animal lover
and advocate—most of his pets were rescue
animals abandoned on AMA grounds or
nearby—his family asked that donations be
made in his name to Muncie’s Animal
Rescue Fund (ARF) at www.munciearf.com.
This will be my last column, and I want
to congratulate Dave Mathewson as the new
Executive Director. I look forward to
working with him.
Until next month, enjoy the flying
season! MA
