Magic in the night sky
Eric Pipenger ([email protected]), president of the Wolverine Skyhawks of Grand Rapids, Michigan, sent us this stunning shot of a night flight. Eric wrote:
“We joined some friends and family at Walter’s RC Park in Saranac, Michigan, to watch the West Michigan Aerobat Show Team put on a demo, then [we] waited until dark for some real excitement!
“Jase ‘the Ace’ Dussia put on a fabulous aerobatic night-flying exhibition with LED lights on his Extra 300. These slow-shutter pics capture the precision of his axial rolls, knife-edge passes, and point rolls. The one I have attached is my personal favorite.”
Eric shot this photo using a Nikon D5100 and Nikon 18-55mm f3.5-5.6G AF-S VR DX Nikkor lens in manual mode at an 18mm focal length. He used manual exposure, with an f-stop of f/4 at 2.5 seconds and an ISO of 100. Eric noted that he didn’t have his tripod with him, so he steadied the camera with a monopod.
More of Eric’s photos can be seen on the Wolverine Skyhawks’s Facebook page at www.wolverineskyhawks.com.
