Viewfinder - 2012/12

Author: Joe Hass

Edition: Model Aviation - 2012/12
Page Numbers: 163

Joe Hass ([email protected]) submitted this photo of his
82-inch wingspan, 1,025 square-inch wing area Great Planes
Giant Scale PT-19. He wrote:
“I converted it to electric with a Dualsky XM5060CA-10
motor on 10-5000 mAh LiPos and a Castle Phoenix 80.
The propeller is a Rev Up 16 x 7-inch (16 inches is a scale
dimension for the propeller). Master Scale modeler George
Maiorana refinished the propeller to simulate the scale
Sensenich propeller, including simulating the fabric covering
on the tips, the brass leading edge, and the Sensenich logo.
Scale air intake and outlets provide sufficient cooling.
“Ten-minute flights only use half of the battery capacity.
Flights are very scalelike.”
Joe used a Nikon D70s digital camera with a 40mm focal
length. The image was shot in pattern metering mode with
an f-stop of f/10 at 1/400 second.
