Glenn Baker ([email protected]) sent this photo of builder and pilot Harold Staats ([email protected]) with his Top Flite Republic P-47 Thunderbolt.
The International Miniature Aircraft Association (IMAA)-legal Giant Scale airplane is intended for Intermediate to Advanced fliers and features a fiberglass cowl, retractable landing gear, dual servo control on both the flaps and ailerons, a radial engine replica, and a cockpit kit.
Harold flies his P-47 at the Greater Southwest Aero Modelers club field in Fort Worth, Texas. Components on his warbird include a Zenoah G-62 engine and Robart Manufacturing retracts. Harold uses a Futaba 12-channel radio. His airplane has flown at Warbirds Over the Rockies in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Glenn noted that Harold recommends this model for anyone who is just getting started flying warbirds.
Using a Sony SLT-A55V with a 24mm focal length, the image was shot in Aperature Priority mode with an f-stop of f/8 at 1/320 second and an ISO of 200.[
