[Headline: “Ultimate” flying]
Bob Vigne ([email protected]) submitted this photo taken at the Mississippi Coast RC Club’s 17th Annual Fall Fly-In and Swap Meet on October 18, 2014, in Gulfport, Mississippi. Bob wrote that a range of skills was displayed during the event, from students learning on buddy boxes to expert pilots who gave demonstrations. Mark Dill was one skilled pilot in attendance. Bob wrote:
“Mark is a retired U.S. Air Force pilot and he has been a member of the AMA since 1982. He brought along his Aeroworks 120cc Ultimate Biplane with an 80-inch wingspan.
“The biplane is powered by a DA-120 swinging a Vess 28B stealth propeller. A Futaba T14SG transmitter with two R7008 receivers and nine Futaba brushless, high-voltage servos are used. The electronics onboard are powered by two Fromeco Li-Ion 5,200 mAh battery packs. The entire setup weights approximately 30 pounds.
“Mark flew the plane to perfection!”
Bob used a Nikon D7000 with a Nikkor 300mm f/4.5 AF-S telephoto lens to take the photo. Aperture-priority mode was used for exposure, with continuous-servo 9-point Dynamic-Area AF for focus. “I like to use the 9-point Dynamic-Area focus because it tracks moving objects very nicely,” he noted. Settings included an f-stop of f/9 at 1/1250 second and an ISO of 800.[dingbat]
