de Havilland DHC-3 Otter
The full-scale de Havilland DHC-3 Otter is a single-engine, high-wing Short Take-Off and Landing (STOL) utility transport aircraft, originally known as the King Beaver. Used by the Royal Canadian Air Force and the Air Command of the Canadian Forces, it was employed for search and rescue until 1980. The United States Army later became its largest operator, with the primary role as a bush airplane.
Alex Curtis (Olathe, Kansas; email: [email protected]) digitally captured his friend Darrell Watts’ de Havilland Otter landing on floats, at the 2010 Heart of America Float Fly. The R/C Barnstormers Model Airplane Club hosts this event at Lake Miola, in Paola, Kansas.
Alex stated, “Darrell has owned this plane for many years and it always receives a lot of attention wherever he flies it.”
