Opening Comments - 2004/11

FOR THE FIRST time in 20 years, the FAI Control Line World
Championships (CLWC) was contested in the United States.
Between July 4 and July 10, the best CL modelers on the planet
made their way to AMA’s International Aeromodeling Center in
Muncie, Indiana, to compete in the four FAI F2 events at the 23rd
CLWC: A (Speed), B (Aerobatics), C (Team Race), and D
(Combat).

IN THIS ISSUE you will find coverage of
the 2004 FAI CL World Championships
(WC) that was contested at our Muncie site in
July. This particular WC was a “category”-
type competition; there were several events
being contested at one time. In this case there
were four FAI CL events: Speed, Aerobatics,
Team Race, and Combat.

THIS ISSUE MARKS the conclusion of
my fourth year in the position of
aeromodeling editor at MA. My boss,
AMA Director of Publications Rob Kurek,
reminded me of this a few days back.
Since then I’ve been thinking about that
milestone and the things that I have tried
to accomplish, the things that have
worked, the things that have failed, and
the things yet to try.
