Radio Control: Electrics
SUCCESS! The Sixth Annual KRC Electric Fly was held on September 21 and 22, 1985, at the Keystone RC Club Flying Field about 30 miles north of Philadelphia in Hatfield, PA. This event has been growing steadily since 1980, and this year drew 54 guest fliers on Saturday and 41 on Sunday for a total of 95 registrations for both days-not counting KRC members! Attendance at this year's event represented 23 states and Canada, with visitors from as far as California. In effect, almost half the nation was represented! The weekend weather was once again nearly perfect-comfortably warm with very gentle breezes throughout both days. There was plenty of thermal activity for those interested, and the skies were always very busy.

MORE ELECTRIC ACTIVITY. The Daniel Boone Silent Fliers meet is an annual 2-Meter RC Soaring contest and was held on Saturday, and Sunday, September 28 and 29, 1985 on the Daniel Boone Homestead near Pottstown, PA. Why mention this in an Electric column? Because this year, there was something more than 2-Meter Soaring going on-there was Electric going on, too! CD Jerry Zeigenfuse explained to me that there is a growing interest in Electric among Soaring enthusiasts, and a growing interest in getting away from some of the unpleasantness of always having to haul out the winch systems. So, a trial Electric event was included in 1985's activity.

FLASH! I've just received a letter from friend and fellow Electric flier Joe Beshar. Joe is the hardworking chairman of the Team Selection Committee for the 1986 World Championship F3E Electric Glider competition to be held in Lommel, Belgium on August 22-30, 1986, and he wants to spread the word about this opportunity. I personally know of several very competent fliers who could do a top-notch job representing the U.S. of A. in this world meet, and I encourage all interested to read on. Team qualification must be made by March 31, 1986, and candidates will participate in Team Selection Finals. The latter are to be completed by June 30, 1986.

NEW Electric club. Les Adams, president of Adams Electronics, a supplier to the Electric need, wrote to tell me of a new all-Electric club that has formed in the northwestern Chicago, IL area. The Electric Model Fliers of Chicago (EMF of Chicago) is presently comprised of about 20 modelers and has the sole interest of the further advancement of Electric-powered flight. Les tells me that their number is growing steadily, and any AMA member interested should contact either Larry Sperling at (312) 303-5165 or Les Adams at (312) 364-0660 after 6:00 p.m. CST. All Electric interests are welcome-Scale, Pattern, Sailplanes-anything! Les is vice-president of the group and is, himself, a very capable Electric modeler.

CANADIAN ELECTRICS. I've just received a courtesy copy of the Electric Model Flier. This is the newsletter of the Electric Model Fliers of Southern Ontario, and if the newsletter is any indication, this is a very serious, going group. The purpose of the club and the newsletter is to further the development of the building and flying of Electric-powered model aircraft. The club president is Stan Shaw, and he can be reached at 15 Aylesbury Rd., Islington, Ont., M9A 2M5, Canada. His telephone number is (416) 231-7050. The excellently-done mailing contains lots of useful information on products and "how-to" goodies, along with the normal editorial content expected of such a publication. To be perfectly candid, the issue I received easily puts to shame any of the columns I've done, based on the sheer volume of useful material!
