N.W. Model Expo '89
PUYALLUP, WA-To say that the Pacific Northwest Model Expo is popular is something of understatement. This year 10,000 people braved the coldest weather in 35 years to attend the event on the first weekend in February. They came to see the models displayed, new products that were being introduced, to swap and trade engines and equipment, and to renew old friendships. Held on the Washington State Fair Grounds near Tacoma, the Expo is the biggest and only show of its kind in the Pacific Northwest.
Have a Mall Show
DOES YOUR CLUB need some public exposure? Is it looking for new members or attempting to raise the public's awareness of modeling? Then try a mall show. It's one of the best ways to put modeling up front before the general public. This past spring several model clubs in the Puget Sound area of Washington State put on a mall show in Olympia. The public saw models that ranged from Slope Soarers and Quarter-Scale RC models to Peanuts and Pennyplanes.
Museum of Flight
Almost everything about Seattle's Museum of Flight is impressive-the airplanes, the facility itself, and the aviation exhibits. It is clear that large amounts of care, thought, and money have gone into the design and layout of the museum to aid in the appreciation of the beauty and variety of manned flight. The museum complex is made up of two contrasting buildings. The first was the Boeing Corporation's first factory, the Red Barn, which dates from the turn of the century. The second building is the Great Gallery, a modern, six-story, glass-and-steel structure. The two make up the Museum of Flight complex on Boeing Field.
