Safety Comes First 2014/01

Sometimes all of our caution and care is not enough. A while ago, I saw news coverage of an RC pilot who was struck by his electric helicopter. His injuries were fatal. Worse yet, some Internet opportunists used this tragic incident to boost their ratings and profits. They wrote lurid headlines that belittled the accident and insulted the pilot.

Dave was in a hobby shop, getting
his electric sport airplane repaired. The
model had minor damage, but not as
much as Dave’s bandaged hand.
My friend, Tony, was behind the
counter, and there was a twinkle in his
eye as he introduced us. Dave explained

Twisted ideas about warps - 2013/03

Last month, I discussed how vital a properly placed CG is to the safe and happy operation of a model aircraft. Close behind the CG in importance are the warps and alignment. Bent or cockeyed flying surfaces can make a model unsafe for flight. Have you ever seen a pilot struggling to keep a crooked RC model in the air? It’s too exciting for my taste!
