Flying for Fun
Now and again, my column idea file folder overflows with items that are very interesting, but are just not of sufficient length for a full column. In the past, I've called a column built on short items by several fancy names, but I'll stick with "pot luck" this time. As one does at such social events, look through what this column has to offer, select some choices for your plate, and chew on them for a while. Whether you swallow them or not depends on you. Care and Handling of CyA: I received a sample of the best thin cyanoacrylate glue (CyA) I've used in years from Model Research Laboratories (MRL) (25108 Marguerite #160, Mission Viejo CA 92692; Tel.: [949] 707-4450).

BEEN WONDERING about all the commotion in Radio Controlled Old Timer Free Flight? Are you bemused at the concept of a bunch of old men, flying old designs with modern radio gear? Do you figure this is just some more of America's fascination with nostalgia? Well buddy, you are both right and wrong! RCOTFF is great fun for "children" of all ages, a real opportunity to unwind from every day pressures, a chance to fly RC without sweaty palms and shakey knees, a way to enjoy the majesty of Free Flight without cross country jogging. HERE'S A CHANCE for you gas model fans to see the job that has stolen the show in the gas model field.... You'll admire the graceful lines, the smart appearance, the flyability, the speed and the power of the `Denny Jr.' You will know why our friends are so enthusiastic in their praise.... So read the splashy full-page ad which appeared in the May 1937 MAN, complete with the grinning visage of Reginald Denny and a full-length photo of a youthful Jane Withers, long before she was thought of selling soap on T.V.
Radio Control: Old-Timers
ATTEMPTING TO replace Cmdr. Bolton at the helm of this column is a challenging and dangerous assignment. Without the help of everyone interested in RC Old Timer we may go aground and be lost at sea forever. If everyone will grab an oar and dig in we can stay on the course Jack plotted and enjoy our voyage on the ship R.C.O.T.F.F. Our voyage will attempt to continue Jack's ongoing coverage of the growing competitive side of our movement. Please, be aware that I live out in the middle of nowhere, making it nearly impossible for me to attend most contests. I must depend on each of you to keep me informed about contests and results. We don't need anything fancy, just a hand-written note will be fine, any black and white photos will also be immensely helpful.
