By invitation only, the best-of-the-best in Scale aeromodeling came together in Mesa, AZ to compete, to display, and to fly some of the finest examples of craftsmanship in existence. The major networks and over 10,000 spectators attended this four-day extravaganza. After reading the spate of articles about the First Top Gun Invitational in Coral Springs, FL in April 1989, I simply took it for granted that it would be hard to beat the RC Condors' performance in putting on a Scale contest of this magnitude. Almost everything I read indicated that, even for a first-year contest, Top Gun '89 went off without a hitch. But for this year's sponsors - the Arizona Model Aviators of Mesa, AZ - improvement was the password of the month. This band of modelers took a great event and made it even greater.
