THE PROTOTYPE is one of the best known British aircraft of World War II. For most of the war it was the fastest thing in the air. It was involved in many daring exploits, such as putting a bomb through the front door of the Gestapo headquarters in Oslo, Norway. The Mossie was also flown by a number of squadrons in the U.S. Army Air Force. A few still survive. Air Progress magazine has reported that Kermitt Weeks of aerobatics fame has one in Florida, but its flying status was not given. Amazingly, the prototype Mosquito survived the war
Westland Whirlwind
The Whirlwind was the first British fighter designed to be armed with 20mm cannons. Although the model appears to have a short nose moment, the center of gravity on our author's model was as per the plans. The sleek appearance of this rarely-modeled WW II fighter makes it an outstanding project in its own right. Add to that easy transportability and inexpensive .10-size engines for power, and you've got an irresistible twin. A four-channeI radio is required.
