Flying Field Layout to Meet Noise Criteria
THE NOISE ISSUE is attracting an increasing amount of concern among modelers these days. The major reason that we are so concerned with noise is that our neighbors object. If they object enough, we lose flying fields. Of course if there are no neighbors near to our fields, there will be no problem. The question, then, is how near is too near. There has been a great deal of study done over the years on the subject of environmental noise. There is the issue of health hazard as a consequence of exposure to high levels. This is a personal risk to modelers (my hearing is seriously reduced as a probable result of 50 years of listening to airplane engines), but it will not cost us our flying fields. The other issue is that of public reaction to noise, which is exactly our problem.
