Arm Soar - 2004/02
THE ARM SOAR is an old Free Flight
Hand-Launched Glider (HLG) that is still
being flown competitively, with occasional
success, by a really old man (I’m in my 70s
now!).
Classic 320
Jean's design is simple and inexpensive compared to today's contest FF models. With it, he established the first national record in 1/2A Classic of 11 minutes, 48 seconds. THIS IS A bit of a fairy tale with (I think) a happy ending. Once upon a time, long, long ago, there was only Free Flight, and all the models flew truly free—free of lines and radios and auto surfaces. Then along came radios and control lines, but the Free Flight models still flew free. (Try saying "Free Flight models still flew free" three times quickly!)
Classic 320
The Classic 320 fuselage features carbon-fiber reinforcement, a round plywood firewall, and essential timer mount reinforcements for stability.
Classic 320
The Classic 320 features a colored tissue-covered fuselage, requiring nitrate dope and epoxy for finishing. Assembly involves precise pylon installation, crucial for balancing different engine types. Testing is done in final flight configuration.
Classic 320
The Classic 320 features a unique 6 x 2 carbon-fiber propeller, designed for F1J and 1/4A use, ensuring optimal performance in contests.
