Radio Control: Scale

I HATE CLICHÉS, but remember that this was written in early February when there was about ten inches of snow on my Pennsylvania driveway and tons of collapsed highway in Southern California. It's good to be home. After packing our gear at the close of the International Modelers Show in Pasadena, we grabbed the shuttle for LAX (Los Angeles International Airport), ate a little institutional food there, and boarded our aircraft-just a scant four-and-a-half hours before the earthquake hit! When I finally arrived at Philadelphia International early the following morning, I lucked out again by beating a severe ice storm by another four-and-a-half hours. Sometimes life is good. The bear eats me up on a regular basis, but every now and then, I get it right.

ATTENDING THE WRAM SHOW in White Plains, New York each year is an experience I always enjoy. No matter how many times this show runs, the action seems to be more and more intense. This February, the exhibits were plentiful, useful, and informative. The static models in every category were outstanding to the last, and the helpful courtesy displayed by this progressive New York host club was second to none. No one within driving distance should miss this annual occasion for any reason.

I'VE RESOLVED TO handle this summer differently from the past few summers by trying to make as many trips to the flying field as possible. Diversions of all descriptions (which have been so easy to accept lately) have managed to lessen my flying to an unhealthy low level. I hope that all of you who share the same opinion will manage to increase your own dosages of aeromodeling this season, as well. After all, we need this, don't we? An apology: Sorry. That's it-short and sweet. Here's the explanation behind it: If you've written to me for information, but have not received an answer, please be patient. I will get to everyone eventually.

I'VE BEEN CATCHING up with your Scale-mail little by little. If you've finally heard from me, thank you for your patience. If it takes me a while to answer your letter, please be confident that it will be answered eventually. In the interim, accept my appreciation of your patience. Manufacturer's News: What's new in the world? How about this: A wonderful organization is in its infancy, and will surely grow into one of the most valuable protectors of antique aeroplanes and related aeroplane treasures. What's more, I don't expect that this growth will take too long. The fledgling organization is called "The First Warplanes," and it is dedicated to the preservation and re-creation of the WW I aviation era.

THIS YEAR'S Mid-Atlantic Radio Control (MARC) show was the affair's tenth annual celebration. It was once again held at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium, Maryland on June 5-6, and as always, it was a smashing success. My schedule allowed me to visit the show for the first time, and what I saw made me wish I had been able to see it sooner. Industry support of the MARC show was evident. Instead of only one or two nearby cottage industry exhibitors, the show's aisles were filled with every level of exhibitor from cottage entrepreneurs to major players.
