It all started with an annual slope contest we called "King of the Bluff." It was much like a fun-fly contest for powered airplanes, but with gliders. Everyone enjoyed these contests until we had a couple of light-wind years, then a heavy-wind year. These conditions pointed out how important the right choice of airplanes is for this type of event.
