Bipe '89
HAL deBOLT began his legendary career in model aviation by competing with Rubber models, then progressed to a successful career in gas-powered Free Flight. At the beginning of World War II, while serving at the Patuxent Naval Air Station in Maryland, Hal's interests turned to Control Line as an activity that required less space than Free Flight. During this period Hal, who had experimented with various designs in Free Flight (Blitzkrieg, Thunderbolt, and Airfoiler in all three classes), focused this creativity on Control Line models. The excellent performance of his series of Bipe Stunt designs led to the formation of Dmeco (deBolt Model Engineering Company) to produce the kits. Hal's company went on to manufacture his other designs in sport, Stunt, and Speed, and his models became known as the standard in performance and quality of that era.
Apiary
DESIGNED AND BUILT around the new Cox Queen Bee .074 engine, the Apiary is an excellent trainer for the newcomer to Stunt and inverted flight. It's capable of loops, inverted flight, and figure eights on 27-ft. Dacron lines-and on 35-ft. lines it can get even fancier. The Cox Queen Bee .074 engine fills a timely niche. It has more power than the marginal .049 engines, yet is still small enough to be flown on short lines. The Queen Bee could well become the standard for schoolyard Control Line Sport Stunt flying, especially with its nice compact muffler to win your neighbors' approval.
Taperwing
FOR THE PYLON RACER who wants the best, for the RC flier who wants to get into Pylon Racing, or for anyone who wants to see what a Cox Tee Dee can really do, the Taperwing is an exciting possibility. Designed in collaboration with J. E. Albritton, this 1/2A racer is faster than the GLH and smoother than the Undertaker. Thanks to its minimal frontal area and a tapered wing and fuselage, this single-aileron model achieves 90-plus mph speeds that stretch the limits of standard performance-yet it still complies with the AMA rules.
ET Electric Trainer
PUTTING AN ELECTRIC MOTOR in a Control Line trainer is one of those timely ideas that make you wonder, "Why hasn't someone done this before?" ET is one of the easiest to fly Control Line trainers ever developed. It's user-friendly and it's fun. What's more, with the quiet electric propulsion system the model is neighbor-friendly, also. Many youngsters have already learned how to operate and maintain electric motors and chargers from having owned one of the RC electric cars, and it's only natural that they will want to move into the added dimensions and challenges of flight.
