Flying High With Solar Power
The Solar Wanderer (L) and Solar Monterey during charging. Both models use one battery pack for motor and receiver, so they can theoretically fly from sunup to sundown, or as long as the transmitter batteries last. In good sunlight, the batteries act as a voltage regulator. Solar Monterey soaks up sun at Rabbit Dry Lake; auxiliary solar cell panel used to increase charge rate. Solar charging saves risk of running down car battery. If electric powered Sailplane hits a thermal, it can soak up enough charge from wing cells for second motor run.
