Vision-Partnership of Youth and Community
GLIMMERS of hope: As Los Angeles and surrounding communities experienced the darkest moments in their histories last April, two men of vision and a small group of their compadres from the Compton Tail Spinners R/C Club were working with students from two archrival high schools in the nearby Orange County community of Anaheim. They were putting the finishing touches on a seven-month Saturday Enrichment Academy that allowed young people to benefit from academic and practical experience in aerodynamics, engineering, and model building.
7-12 Model Aviation Youth Academy
What a difference a couple of years can make! The January 1993 Model Aviation carried an account of the first Top Gun competition between rival Orange County, California high schools. The students had completed an aeronautics course called the Saturday Enrichment Academy, a program conceived and implemented by Charles Kelley and his friend Prentiss Ellis.
