How to Clean Pots
WE ALL have a servo that is on the jittery side, or that won't center as it should, and we relegate it to throttle duty. Sooner or later all of our servos become "throttle servos" and something must be done. This is about that something. The usual cause of a jittery servo is dirt in the feedback pot and it is an easy malady to cure. The feedback pot (potentiometer) is very similar to the volume control on a TV or stereo. It is a variable resistor that is connected to the output arm of the servo and is the device that tells the arm when it has moved enough to correspond to the movement of the stick on the transmitter. It is right under the output arm and is subject to dirt and grease from the engine exhaust and our fingers. When it gets dirty, the servo gets the jitters.
Snuff Can Fuel Tank
AMONG the things forgotten in our plastic age is the snuff-can fuel tank and it is high time this old goodie was rejuvenated and modernized. A tank made from the standard American Snuff Company tin can will hold about 3 ounces of fuel and weigh just a little less than the commercial 2 oz. plastic one.
