AirVenture Oshkosh 2000, the Experimental Aircraft
Association’s (EAA’s) annual convention, was held
July 26-August 1 at Wittman Regional Airport in
Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
AirVenture is the world’s largest gathering of
recreational aviation enthusiasts. The seven-day event
offers the public thousands of aircraft displays, nearly 800
commercial exhibitors, aviation forums, daily air shows, and an
activity center for children.
The year 2000 marked the 15th year of Academy of Model
Aeronautics (AMA) participation in the convention.
Bill Winter: Simply the Best
William J. "Bill" Winter, America's preeminent model aviation writer, editor, designer, and publisher, died December 12, 1998. He leaves behind an enormous collection of published work, and a seemingly limitless supply of friends and admirers. A few of those who knew this true aeromodeling legend have expressed their feelings about this remarkable man: John Hunton was Winter's collaborator on many projects in recent years. "Bill had discussed with me his complete satisfaction with what he had accomplished in his life through model aviation, for he is truly one of the most respected men in the field," wrote Hunton. THE 45TH ANNUAL Weak Signals RC Exposition was held April 9-11, 1999 at the SeaGate Center, Toledo, Ohio. This report will take a look at recently released products and products scheduled for release in time for this issue. And as usual, this is only a slice of the action that took place at Toledo. Fox Manufacturing Co. (5305 Towson Ave., Fort Smith AR 72901) added the Fox 4.2, a 69cc gas engine. It is suitable for airplanes from 18 to 34 pounds and weighs five pounds. The Fox 4.2 sells for $649.99. JR has expanded its line of accessories with the G400 and G450 Piezo gyros. The G400 offers gain adjustments through a potentiometer located on the gyro; the G450 offers variable gain electronically through a separate channel. Rollins Rd., Round Lake Beach IL 60073) offered the Dual Zenon Strobe light for aircraft use.
