Radio Control: Soaring
EACH YEAR the Soaring Nats gets better. This year it was great! Thanks to the drive and tenacity of the League of Silent Flight (LSF) leadership, working in harmony with AMA, improvements have been substantial across the board. The events are better-organized and run more smoothly; the Soaring site and equipment have improved dramatically; and someone is arranging for the weather to improve each year: No rain (one slight drizzle), and highs in the 80s! In a period of eight days, nine Soaring events, the "officially unofficial" HL Golf event, and a banquet were held. Two new events, Cross Country and RES (Rudder-Elevator-Spoiler), were well-attended.
Radio Control: Electrics
THE NATIONAL Electric Aircraft Council (NEAC) was once again the gracious and efficient host of the Electric Nats August 1-4. Without the planning, efforts and dedication of NEAC (in partnership with AMA, which supplies support, equipment, and facilities) there would be no Electric events at the Nats. This "team" effort has been very successful. This year's E-Nats consisted of four classic AMA rule book events: Class A and Class B Sailplane (Limited Motor Run, or LMR), and Class A and Class B Old-Timer (LMR). There were also six "unofficial" events including four 1/2A (Speed 400) events and two "Sport" events. The 1/2A events were Sailplane (LMR), Texaco Old-Timer, Fun Scale, and Pylon. The two "Sport" events were Sport Sailplane and Sport Scale. There was something for almost everyone in which to compete and/or just enjoy.
