Grand Weekend in Muncie

The second annual Grand Event/Homecoming, sponsored by RCHTA (Radio Control Hobby Trade Association) and the AMA, was Friday-Sunday, June 12-14 at the International Modeling Center in Muncie. It was a chance for kids and adults to experience different types of modeling and enjoy family fun, free of charge. An objective of the weekend was "to get new [AMA] members, and the hobby industry wants new customers," according to Bob Vojslavek, chairman of the Grand Event.

The 1998 National Aeromodeling Championship

THE INTERNATIONAL Aeromodeling Center at AMA Headquarters in Muncie, Indiana has its third set of National Aeromodeling Championships outdoor events under its belt-the 72nd Nationals (Nats) ever. Competition, which consisted of 104 separate official events and several unofficial events, lasted from July 10 to August 4. "I was really pleased [with this year's Nats]," said Dave Brown, president of AMA. "The entries were up, and there was a minuscule number of complaints." Attendance at this year's events was up, with the number of contestants totaling approximately 1,300-an increase of outdoor competitors to about 1,200, and 100 or so Indoor fliers, which is consistent with past Nats entrants. The Indoor Nats was held May 27-31 at the Johnson City, Tennessee Mini-Dome on the campus of East Tennessee State University.

Celebration of Eagles II: Modeling greats meet in Muncie to share rich heritage

On Friday, September 11, 1998, people were waiting outside as early as an hour before the doors opened to get into the Frank V. Ehling Museum at AMA Headquarters in Muncie, Indiana. The event that people were waiting for to start-the one for which some traveled from across the country, and from across oceans to attend-was the Pioneers Party, a reception that kicked off a week of activity at the International Aeromodeling Center.
