Custom RC Sailplane Field Box
MOST commercially-available field boxes are designed primarily for RC power plane flying with provisions for engine starting equipment. The compartments in these boxes usually are not the right size or configuration for Sailplane paraphernalia. The field box presented here was designed specifically to carry all necessary items for Sailplane hi-start flying, without being overly large or heavy. The transmitter is housed in one end and the hi-start in the other with drawers and a compartment in between. The drawers have movable dividers to hold small items-like ballast-from moving around.
IO
NAMED AFTER one of Jupiter's moons, this model also happens to be a Two-Meter Sailplane that's an offspring of my Standard class Callisto 82 Sailplane. However, the design presented here is constructed of composite materials, whereas the Callisto 82 was entirely of built-up construction. Development of this design has taken place over a three-year period during which a number of prototypes were built by myself and fellow members of the Eastern Iowa Soaring Society. In competition the lo has placed in the top four of the Two-Meter class at the AMA Nationals three years in a row (1984-1986). Additionally, an lo together with a Callisto 82 won the Lee Renaud overall award at the 1985 Nats for the best combined scores of Two-Meter. Modified Standard, and Unlimited classes.
