Radio Control: Slope Soaring

THE NEW SOARTECH #10 has to be one of the best issues yet. Packed full of useful information, this is a must have. For those not familiar with SoarTech publications, they are the works of many contributing authors and are compiled by SoarTech's Herk Stokely. Herk's intent is to provide up-to-date technical information for the betterment of RC soaring. The now ten issues are a resource library any modeler can find extremely useful in designing, building, and flying RC gliders and sailplanes. SoarTech #10's collection of articles is a super buy at $16 (US). Martin Bamert's construction and molding article alone is worth the price of this issue. All of the articles, however, are superb. The articles by Jim Stephens and Steve Pituch offer readers a chance to get source codes in order to perform model design analysis on a home computer.

HAVE YOU HAD a good couple of months flying slope? I hope so! The summer season here in the Tri-Cities has provided exceptionally good winds, coming from all different directions and filled with thermals. Need I say more? It has been great fun sloping in 85-degrees-plus temperatures. Also, the first North American Scale Soaring Association (NASSA) Rally was hosted here July 24 and 25, attracting some super Scale models as well as some great people. I'll get to that later.

With that in mind, the Slope Soaring column this month will be filled with as many pictures as space allows. I hope you enjoy the pictorial. One picture, and from a biased point of view, is of two beautiful ladies holding a fun wingeron sloper from the Oakland Model Academy.
