GENERALLY, activity or event reports
that appear in this column are written by
district associate vice presidents (AVPs) or
myself after attending club or districtsponsored
events. With more than 125 clubs
in the district, many activities worthy of
publication may never get their deserved
recognition.
It is up to you, the club president, event
director, newsletter editor, or any member in
attendance at a club activity to send me a
report. Introduce your club and its events
along with at least five digital onemegapixel
photos with captions to honor
club members for promoting and making the
sport of aeromodeling a worthwhile and
enjoyable experience.
This month the report to follow comes from
the AMA club: Concord Aero Guidance
Society (CAGS).
“Our club’s flying site is located on the
grounds of the Elm Brook Park, one of New
Hampshire’s state parks and next to the
Hopkington Dam management area in
Contoocook, New Hampshire. The flying
field is open for flying from 10 a.m. through
7 p.m. seven days a week while the park is
open from mid-May through the second
weekend in September. In addition to RC
flying, other park activities include
swimming, picnicking and boating.
“We conduct several types of events each
year. On June 21, 2008, we had the CAGS
Flying Chicken Bar BQ. We have learned
that without the support of our families
many of us would not have lasted in this
sport and so this day is dedicated to family
enjoyment, developing and renewing
friendships, along with good food and flying
fun.
“This year Dick Smith, club vice
president, and his many helpers served up 35
chicken halves to those in attendance. All
reported having a great time as depicted in
the pictures.
“Another popular event we have during
the summer is a scale fun-fly. This year, on
July 13, 2008, we had the Charles McLean
Memorial Scale Fun-Fly. This annual event
is named for Charles McLean, our club’s
founder and notable scratch builder. Event
attendance comes from our club and
surrounding area clubs.
“Although the weather was clear and
warm, strong winds prevented some of the
airplanes from flying. Spectators attended
the event to see the superbly built scale
airplanes that were displayed and flown.
This is a non-rule book event and informal
pilot judging determined who would receive
the cash awards.
“The winner’s names are given in the
caption under the photo for the event. In
spite of the wind, everyone had a good time
and is looking forward to attending again
next year.
“In addition to the above events, the club
conducts an annual spring and fall float-fly.
With more than 60 friendly members in the
club, some of whom have been in the hobby
since the early days of model aviation,
newcomers to the club can expect very
knowledgeable help while learning and
developing aermodeling skills.”
Thank you to AMA club CAGS and its
president, Victor Stoykovich, for this club
report. More information may be found on
the club’s Web site at http://members.ttlc

The district officers and I wish all a happy,
healthy, and safe holiday season.
