ON THURSDAY morning, January 9, Les
Watson, Steve Brehm, and I flew to Las
Vegas, Nevada, for a one-hour layover.
Needless to say, we each left $20 in coins in
the airport slot machines before our
connecting flight to Ontario, California, to
attend the AMA Expo on Friday and
Saturday, and the Executive Council (EC)
meeting on Sunday. We arrived in Ontario at
2 p.m., leaving us enough time to check out
the progress of the exhibitors who were
setting up for the Expo.
Friday morning was spent at an air show
at a local airport. The aerobatic
performances were enhanced by the
backdrop of the mountains. The rest of the
day we checked out all the Expo exhibitor
products, indoor flying demonstrations, and
interacted with the public at the AMA
central booth.
Steve and Les did much the same on
Saturday while I attended committee
meetings in preparation for Sunday’s EC
meeting and do a bylaws revision
presentation for those who attended a
scheduled AMA membership meeting.
On Sunday at the EC meeting important
agenda items were covered, motions were
approved, and can be reviewed in the
meeting minutes on the AMA Web site. The
photos and comments that follow tell the
rest of the story.
At the AMA Expo in Ontario, California,
were (L to R) District I’s safety officer, Les
Watson; vice president, Andy Argenio; and
associate vice president, Steve Brehm.
On Sunday, after a busy and productive EC
meeting, we were invited to dinner by the
lawyers who represent the AMA. Good food,
friends, and much laughter were had by all
before flying home on Monday.

This model build-and-fly room was used for
kids’ hands-on fun.
The AMA flight simulator provided an
introduction to RC flying for many, even this
grandmother.
A gym-size room allowed the public to view
demonstration flights of indoor models.
We attended a full scale airshow early Friday
morning before the AMA Expo.
Old timers like me saw the many antique
radios that were part of our RC history.

One of the many unique aircraft on display at the AMA Expo was this 1/6-scale model of a
1925 trimotor Sikorsky S-35. This supurb 39-pound airplane has a 9-foot wingspan.
