AMA returned to the Joe Nall Giant Scale
Fly-In this year for a membership meeting
and AMA merchandise was sold for the first
time. The meeting was held Thursday
evening at 7 followed by a free hot dog
supper for the members.
Doug Holland, executive vice president,
chaired the meeting. Also attending were
district vice presidents Andy Argenio,
District I; Dave Mathewson, District II; Bob
Brown, District III; Bliss Teague, District IV;
Tony Stillman, District V; Bill Oberdieck,
District VII; and AMA Executive Director
Jim Cherry.
District IV had associate vice presidents
John Kirchstein, Randy Elliot, and David
Jones; Contest Coordinator Andy Kane;
Frequency Coordinator George Fryer; and
Safety Coordinator Will Hicks also in
attendance. AMA’s Joyce Hager and Sheila
Tweedy staffed the AMA retail area and were
kept busy selling.
Thank you to Pat Hartness for his
generosity in letting AMA use his facilities. I
understand there were more than 550
registered pilots for the event. This seems to
be one of—if not the—largest annual event in
the east and maybe even the entire country.
Thanks again, Pat!

The DCRC club had another successful flyin
at the Flying Circus Aerodrome in
Bealeton, Virginia, September 9, 2006. The
weather was a little hot, but there was a good
turnout.
CD Andy Kane ably kept things in order.
There was much flying Friday and Saturday
with all types of civilian and warbird aircraft.
There were several jets in attendance, along
with electric-, nitro-, and gasoline-powered
airplanes.
Sunday was reserved for the model-flying
demonstration in the morning and a full-scale
air show in the afternoon.
This year, Andy Kane received a District
IV award for his hard work and continued
support of the aeromodeling. The award was
presented during the evening meal on
Saturday.
Congratulations and thank you, Andy,
from District IV. You have certainly
earned it.
