AMA News District IV - 2007/05
Apple Corps Fly-In
Apple Corps Flying Club, Inc. held a fly-in to welcome a member back after an accident. Approximately 25–30 modelers attended, and several received prizes donated by local businesses and hobby merchandisers. Nearly $1,000 was raised; the funds will be used for a plaque in the new wing to be built for the rehabilitation center that helped the member get back on his feet. Everyone had a good time, especially at the noon barbecue catered by a local merchant.
Event highlights:
- Attendance: about 25–30 modelers
- Prizes: donated by local businesses and hobby shops
- Funds raised: nearly $1,000 for a rehabilitation-center plaque
- Meal: noon barbecue catered by a local merchant
- Note: The club’s field has a nice mountain backdrop in western North Carolina; it’s hard to find a flat spot big enough in those hills.
The club is considering making this an annual event to support other needy causes—a good way to work toward attaining Leader Club status. Let’s wish them the best.
Leader Clubs
Congratulations to the Leader Clubs retaining their status for another year, and welcome to the new clubs joining them. Keep up the good work.
Joe Nall Membership Meeting
As I write this, we are already into 2007. There will be a membership meeting at Joe Nall again this year on Thursday, May 17 at 7 p.m. Come join in, ask questions, and meet some of the officers. I hope AMA’s new Executive Director, Jim Cherry, plans to be there—if so, come welcome him and stop by the AMA tent under the big oak tree. A number of the district vice presidents are expected to attend as well.
Newsletters and Closing
Thank you to all the clubs for sending their newsletters. They are informative and enjoyable and help me keep up when I cannot attend every event.
Until next time, go take a kid flying.
