District IV
The Triad Aeromodelers, Inc. held its annual swap meet at the Davidson County Fairgrounds in Lexington, North Carolina.
There was a large turnout of modelers seeking bargains for the upcoming flying season. Photos showed strong participation at the event. This is one of the club’s primary money-making endeavors.
Door prizes and a 50-50 raffle kept attendees anxious throughout the day. Many went home with bargains and door prizes donated by local merchants. Photos of buyers and sellers illustrate how large the turnout was.
Lost field is being used again!
The Ferguson Field Flyers lost their field several years ago and moved to a full-scale airport in Bryson City, North Carolina. The club changed its name to Smoky Mountain Barnstormers and remained on that site for several years.
After a change of events, and with the help of their new president, they were able to move back to the old field, which was on Indian tribal property. John Bradley, current club president, negotiated with the tribe for the return to the former site. The club’s new name is the Kituwah R/C Club.
The field has been updated, and the club’s first event was held October 6–7, 2007. It was well attended with fliers from:
- Tennessee
- South Carolina
- North Carolina
- Virginia
A noon meal was enjoyed by all, and local merchants contributed door prizes for the raffle. CD Dwayne Wright is looking forward to many future events.
