Catawba Valley Fun-Fly
The Catawba Valley R/C pilots held their annual fun-fly with plenty of food, fun, and flying. The weather was just right with little wind.
Airplanes on display included:
- Trainers
- Military models
- Large aerobatic aircraft
- Cubs with large bush-type wheels
- Old-Timer models
Along with the event came the usual fun and ribbing enjoyed by the club. As they say, "if you do not want to have fun, stay home." If you missed this year, come join them next year—you will not regret it!
DCRC Annual Event — Flying Circus Field, Bealeton, VA
DCRC held its annual event at the Flying Circus field in Bealeton, Virginia. There were airplanes of all types and sizes. Friday was a great day and not quite as hot as last year.
With the weather forecast pending, Contest Director (CD) Andy Kane decided to hold the barbecue on Friday night instead of Saturday as usual. After the meal, a raffle was held; many left with smiling faces and prizes. The raffle was staffed by Jim McDaniel and Andy Kane.
Andy’s decision proved wise: it began to rain before we left and rained most of the next day. I understand this was the first time weather had been a major problem. We all hope for better weather next year, although we did need the rain.
Aviation Day
Aviation Day was sponsored by:
- Hickory Moose Lodge #1312
- West Hickory Aero Modelers
- Caldwell Aero Modelers
- AMA District IV
The day included kids and their parents building and flying model airplanes. Approximately 20 people participated in the event.
Activities included:
- A building session
- Lunch
- Outdoor flying (which seemed to be the most fun)
- Displays and flight demonstrations
One electric park flyer was flown, and a jet model was taxied around the parking lot. Various other models were on display for all to see.
Thanks to the Moose Lodge, West Hickory Aero Modelers, Caldwell Aero Modelers, and other members of District IV who helped with the event. Plans are already underway for next year.
