157 MODEL AVIATION
FISH FRY & FLY: The Sussex
Aeromodelers Club (SAC), in Delaware,
held its second annual Fish Fry & Fly on
September 28, 2008. Pilots, family, and
friends from neighboring clubs in Delaware
and Maryland joined us for some great
eating and flying.
Randy, our bold fisherman from Iowa,
combined forces with Willy and his Secret
Batter Recipe, to produce a mouth-watering
delight. Other folks set up the food board
and made all visitors feel welcome.
A nice variety of gas, glow, and electric
aircraft—from foamie bipes and gliders to
heavy warbirds—carved their way through
the clear Delaware skies. Dessert was being
served when our squadron of so-called Slow
Survivable Combat airplanes took to the air
against the opposition in their ceaseless
quest for paper ribbon.
Then, the big contest was held! Young
fliers from pre-school to high school were
given rubber band model airplanes. After
assembling them, the kids wound them up
and competed in spot landings, longest time
aloft, and longest flight. The young champs
earned beautiful airplane trophies.
Actually, I think the adults enjoyed the
event as much as did the kids.

The Macon Aero Modelers Club in
Franklin, North Carolina, attended the
Macon County Fair. The club had a booth
inside the main building where they raffled
off an RTF Miss-2 electric airplane or a
chance to win $150 worth of gasoline. The
winner took the gas so the club still has the
airplane.
“We didn’t raise a whole lot of money—
$728—but we sure made a lot of friends and
got to talk to a lot of folks wanting to learn
more about our sport and many of whom
were modelers in their younger years,”
wrote Bob Wilson, Macon Aero Modelers
club president. “We found it to be valuable
public relations.”
Note the MA magazines and brochures
on the table that the club was giving away,
as well as the AMA logo on its sign. For
some of the clubs in small communities, this
is a great way to make friends, and of
course, meet prospective members interested
in learning to fly RC.

Carolina, has passed away. Our condolences
to his family. Safety Coordinator Brad
Booth will be assuming the position of
Frequency Coordinator.
Until next time, go teach a kid to fly.
