Best of Show winner Brian Strachan is flying
under the watchful eye of his grandfather,
Joe Thompson, of Seguin, Texas.
THE JERRY MILLER Memorial
Military Fly-In was held at Randolph AFB
Auxiliary Field and despite threatening
weather, 34 pilots enjoyed a weekend of
flying and fun in Jerry’s memory. CDs
George Sheffield and Gary Rice ran a safe
and enjoyable event and the pilots and
spectators truly enjoyed themselves.
Best of show, voted on by pilots, went
to 10-year-old Brian Strachan flying a
Hangar 9 P-51. He was Jerry’s last student
so he opened the show with a solo flight in
Jerry’s memory. Brian flew more flights
than anyone else and even flew my G-38-
powered PT-17 wannabe.
Jerry Miller Jr. received the award for
best World War II aircraft with his Dad’s
G-62 powered P-51. He made a number of
flights that would have made his Dad proud
with low, fast, scale passes. The picture of
him with the airplane wasn’t good but
below is the P-51 on a low fly-by.
Best World War I model went to Keith
Coover with his beautiful 1/3-scale Fokker
D.VII. Best Modern Day Military airplane
went to Richard Evans with his two electric
ducted-fan fighters.
The Club 40 racing group had a crowd of
32 pilots for races on May 19. Chuck
Waller, CD and district safety coordinator,
reported several close races and a few
mishaps, but generally everyone had a good
time.
All but one of the pilots posed for a group
picture before racing began. Fortunately it
was taken before racing because there were
fewer airplanes available after the races.
Winner in Novice was Pete Dubre and
Advanced Class was won by Ray Allen.
The Weatherford Model Airplane Club’s
spring float-fly was attended by 31 pilots
and approximately 150 spectators. Mark
and Jan Perkins report it was a great day:
cool, slightly overcast, and hardly any
wind.
The Bikers Against Child Abuse
(BACA) attended with plenty of kids and
everybody had hot dogs.
This view shows many of the airplanes and
pilots attending the Weatherford event.
Ranger from Bikers Against Child Abuse
addressed the crowd.

Scale airplanes. He loves watching and
