SEPTEMBER 9 AND 10, the Northwest
Soaring Society hosted its 30th annual
tournament. The event was held on the sod
farms located near Eltopia, Washington.
Strong winds put the event on hold on the
first day but only for roughly an hour.
Guy Russo, who flew a dominating
performance, took a first place with Russ
Young of Utah coming in a close second.
Bill Hanson finished third.
Amy Pool represented the first member
of her gender to make the finals
competition! Congratulations, Amy.
Thanks to all of those who made this
year’s event possible. This and other
events such as this cannot happen without
those unsung heroes who work behind the
scenes.
Thanks to Jim Pugh and Tom Culmsee
for the report.

The Northwest Soaring Society celebrated 30 years!
Sunday, November 19, 2006, the Puget
Sound Electric Model Flyers hosted an
exhibit of model aircraft of all types and
invited area modelers to display their
airplanes. The location was the South
Lounge at the Museum of Flight in Seattle,
Washington.
Seattle’s Museum of Flight was the venue
for the Puget Sound Electric Model Flyers’
exhibit.
The occasion was in part to celebrate
Robert “Bob” Benjamin’s induction to the
Model Aviation Hall of Fame. I was unable
to attend so I asked Randy Smithhisler,
Bob’s friend and the person who
nominated him for the honor, to make this
presentation.
Bob Benjamin (L) received the Model
Aviation Hall of Fame award from Randy
Smithhisler.
Bob’s Me 109.
A longtime modeler, Bob is also a
talented artist. He has written numerous
articles for magazines.
Bob is a man of many talents and is a
stanch supporter of model aviation.
Congratulations from all of us!
