Alaska Radio Control Society (ARCS) — 2006 awards and highlights

Reeves Lippincott, associate vice president in Alaska, sent photos and reports from the Alaska Radio Control Society (ARCS).

  • Pilot of the Year (2006): Andrew Cunningham

Andrew was pronounced ARCS Pilot of the Year for 2006. He competed in 12 events and bested the club, winning against some stiff competition including Reeves and Andrew’s father, the 2004 champion Ed Cunningham.

  • Novice of the Year (2006): Phillip Keith Strong

Phillip Keith Strong was awarded ARCS 2006 Novice of the Year. Keith earned this honor by flying in glider events and helping out at other contests. Keith, 15 and in ninth grade in Anchorage, “loves to fly RC aerobatic airplanes.” His goal is to someday be a Navy F‑18 fighter pilot.

  • Notable builds and pilots

Fred Keller constructed a 2.48‑gram airplane of his own design; the little aircraft flies beautifully. Another photo shows Casey Smoot “wall‑hanging” his Shock Flyer — he makes this look easy. Casey is one of the best aerobatic pilots in the ARCS club and lives in Eagle River, Alaska.

Thanks, Reeves. Until next time. Bruce
