AMA News District XI - 2007/07

This has been a busy spring here in the Northwest. Spring is our rainy season, but there has been no shortage of activities.

MECA Swap Meet (March 10, McMinnville)

  • The Model Engine Collectors Association (MECA) Swap Meet was sponsored by McMinnville Aircraft Modelers.
  • The event featured a visit from Noel Martin’s Miniature Aviation Museum and Frank Macy’s American Junior Classics.
  • McMinnville is also home to the Evergreen Aviation Museum and the Spruce Goose. Numerous outstanding model aircraft were on display.

Monroe show

  • Monroe, Washington, was the site of another great show I reported on last month.
  • If you missed it this year, John Fogelsong has already made plans for next year at the same site but in a larger building.
  • People are still talking about this event and how much fun they had.

Apple Blossom Fly-in (May 4–6, Wenatchee)

  • Host club: Red Apple Flyers.
  • This is one of the nicest fields in the district. Plenty of good flying, coupled with the Apple Blossom parade and festival, make for a great weekend for the whole family.
  • The following pictures from the event are courtesy of the Red Apple Flyers.

Volcano Fun Scale and Fun-Fly (Ben’s Strip, Zillah, near Yakima)

  • Hosted by the Yakima Valley Aero Modelers.
  • This is another one of the must-do events of spring.
  • By the time you read this the events will be history for this year, but I urge you to put them on your schedule for next year.

Keep flying and keep smiling. Bruce.
