AMA News: District XI - 2008/02

Author: Bruce Nelson

Edition: Model Aviation - 2008/02
Page Numbers: 187

THE FOLLOWING report and pictures
were sent in by Lynn Hendry, a member of
the Lewis-Clark Radio Control Model
Club (LCRCMC) located in Lewiston,
Idaho, and Clarkston, Washington.
Lynn wrote, “As a club, we are
attempting to get more involved in
community activities and make ourselves
known to the general public. Hopefully we
are getting out of the ‘negative rut’ the
club has found itself in for the past few
years.”
As a result of the club’s new intentions,
on October 27, 2007, LCRCMC
entertained members of the Idaho State
Veterans Home in Lewiston with an RC
Air Show for the veterans. Lynn CDed the
event.
The members explained the aircraft to
the attendees then put on a flying
demonstration. Club president Bill
Robertson assisted Lynn with the
arrangements for the event and various
activities.
John Sawyer explains his P-51 to the
veterans.
The visitors arrived at the LCRCMC flying
site in the “Veterans Van.”
The veterans in attendance at the LCRCMC
watched the flying demonstration.
The Nampa Model Aviators (NMA) hosted
the seventh annual SW Idaho Scale Masters
Qualifier the weekend of June 15. The event
flowed smoothly with many NMA club
members as well as people from other clubs
participating as dedicated judges, callers,
flight bosses, score keepers, etc.
With all the support staff that
participated, the pilots were able to focus on
flying. They did so with a great attitude and
verbal appreciation. That epitomizes this
great hobby!
Bish Wheeler played a key role in getting
the club some fantastic exposure on KTVB
Channel 7. His daughter works for the
station and arranged for them to come out
on Friday to cover the event. The story ran
Friday evening and Saturday morning and
an unbelievable number of spectators
showed up to watch the airplanes and pilots.
Roughly 15 or 16 registered pilots came
from Idaho, Arizona, Oregon, and Canada.
Only one aircraft was lost during the event
and no one was injured.
Roly Worsfold from British Columbia,
finished first in Expert.
Dick Hanson placed second with his Proctor
Nieuport.
Mike Brewer finished third with his Stinson.
Gene LaFond, District XI associate vice
president, accompanied by his caller and
technical advisor, Donna, placed fourth.
The registered pilots came from Idaho,
Arizona, Oregon, and Canada.
Until next time. Bruce
