AMA News District XI - 2009/02

On Saturday, December 6, the Northwest Skyraiders hosted their club swap meet. As in past years, the swap meet was held at the Clover Park Technical College Aviation Center at the Puyallup Airport, 17214 110th Avenue East, in south Puyallup.

I attended this event three years ago and found many treasures. This year I arrived a little late and, as you might expect, most of the "good stuff" had already sold. There were some great vintage as well as new kits — including a Top Flite Stinson Reliant kit at a giveaway price — along with many other kits. There were some nice vintage engines as well as vintage modelers (they're going to kill me for that!).

As always, a good time was had by all. This is an event to put on your winter calendar.

Just because Old Man Winter has set in doesn't mean there's nothing to do. By the time you read this, the indoor fliers will have hosted an indoor fly-in at Hood River, Oregon. Weather permitting, I will be able to report on it; a severe winter storm was due here that weekend.

Last but not least, the Northwest Model Hobby Expo and swap meet in Monroe, Washington, is on the horizon. If you have not made this trip, you are missing one of the top events in the Northwest. John and his helpers put a lot of effort into making it worth the trip from anywhere in the district.

Until next time... Bruce
