Wenatchee Red Apple Flyers

The Wenatchee Red Apple Flyers have a new flying site in Wenatchee, Washington.

The new flying site is the result of many years of negotiating with Waste Management Corp (WMC) and a property trade. WMC gave the club money each year for five years to hold the property and then paid for all development and construction. The building includes:

  • A full commercial kitchen
  • Meeting rooms
  • Restrooms with showers
  • 25 full-service RV hookups (site #1 was reserved for me!)

Kitsap Aircraft Radio Control Society (ARCS) — Multiwing Fun-Fly at Port Orchard

The Kitsap ARCS is a very active club in northwest Washington. Verlyn Grange, Kitsap ARCS representative, sent the following report.

Verlyn and fellow member Michael Miller had been working on a biplane model together. Michael suggested that, with the growing interest in biplanes in the club, they should hold a biplane fun-fly. Verlyn noted there was also interest in triplanes and proposed a multiwing event.

Michael approached the club president and a date was set in mid-September for the event at Little Field in Port Orchard.

In short, for a trial event organized by a single club and not advertised to other clubs in the area, there were 11 pilots and 15 aircraft. Aircraft ranged in size from a very small Wright Flyer to a large-scale Fokker Triplane, with both electric and glow-powered models represented.

Plaques were awarded for Pilots’ Choice and Best Flight. Pilots were treated to a club-sponsored burger and hot-dog barbecue. All who attended commented on how much they enjoyed the event.

We thank the club members, the members’ wives, and a very special guest who provided the volunteer work that made this event a success.

The Kitsap ARCS is looking forward to this coming May, when we hope to host a district-wide multiwing competition.
