SFRCF Pylon Competition (September 6–7, 2008)

The Sanderson Field RC Fliers (SFRCF) hosted an Academy of Model Aeronautics–sanctioned pylon competition on September 6–7, 2008. The competition was held at the SFRCF home field in Shelton, Washington, and was sponsored by the Pylon Racers of Puget Sound (PROPS).

Pilots arrived Friday for registration and camping, and racing began Saturday. Before the heats started, volunteer SFRCF course workers took their stations, including pylon 1-3 cut judges, the fueling station, flaggers, and timers/lap counters.

Each day, SFRCF volunteers provided meal service. After lunch there was plenty of time to look at the aircraft and meet the pilots. Appreciation for the volunteers was expressed by all participants and included a prize drawing so that no volunteer left without a prize. After the volunteer prize drawing, pilots received their awards.

Although the awards ceremony ended the day for SFRCF volunteers, the PROPS organizers had more work to do. By the end of Monday, the race equipment was removed and the field was cleaned.

North West Model Hobby Expo (Monroe, Washington)

The photos above and following are from the North West Model Hobby Expo in Monroe, Washington, held the first weekend of February. The event was well attended and featured displays of RC cars, helicopters, indoor electric aircraft, and even BattleBots — all great crowd pleasers.

Vendors and clubs staffed booths, and the swap meet area was busy. Many treasures found proud new owners. I was even tempted and adopted a float plane and an engine for a "big bird" project. Thanks to John and his helpers for a job well done!
