AMA News District XI - 2010/02

Well, here we are — 2010. Christmas, Hanukkah, and New Year's Day are behind us, there's some strange white stuff on the ground, and there haven't been many opportunities to get in the air lately. But wait — the NW Model Hobby Expo is coming in a few weeks: February 12–14, to be exact.

NW Model Hobby Expo

For many years we've looked forward to this event, and for the past four years we've enjoyed it all indoors, out of the cold, with an expanding format and growing attendance. Last year’s Expo drew just shy of 6,000 modelers through the gates and another 1,500 or so participants. This year’s show will even offer prize money for the Best of the Best in Scale display.

Planned events and displays include:

  • Big Apple Swap Meet
  • Battle Bots arena of destruction
  • Hockey Bots arena (less destructive) with rental bots
  • Indoor Fun Fly (all three days) with a cash prize for the high-points champion
  • Gil Coughlin Museum display
  • Drifter car races
  • Hill crawler car track
  • Boat pond with lots of action
  • Additional activities still in the planning stages

John Foglesong has promised that the banquet and auction on Saturday night will have more surprises than last year, including a very special gift for one lucky attendee.

With times getting tough and the economy continually taking hits, several businesses in our industry are doing everything they can to keep supplying the parts and services we need to continue our hobby. We really need to support these dealers — when a seller at the event offers you a great deal, don't be afraid to give them a hug of appreciation for helping keep our hobby alive through these trying times.
