AMA News District XI - 2010/02

WELL, HERE WE ARE, 2010, Christmas,
Hanukkah, and New Year’s Day behind us,
some strange looking white stuff on the
ground, and not too many opportunities for
getting in the air as of lately. But wait … the
NW Model Hobby Expo is coming in a few
weeks ... February 12-14, to be exact.
For so many years we have waited for
this event each year, and for the past four
years have had the treat of it being all
indoors, out of the cold, with an everexpanding
format and growing attendance.
Last year’s Expo drew just shy of 6,000
modelers through the gates and another
1,500 or so participants. This year’s show
will have actual prize money given for the
Best of the Best in Scale display.
The Indoor Fun Fly is planned for all
three days and will also have a cash prize for
the high-points champ.
John Foglesong has promised that the
banquet and auction on Saturday night will
have more surprises than last year and a very
special gift for one lucky attendant.
In addition to the ever-popular Big Apple
Swap Meet (above), other events and
displays planned are include the Battle Bots
arena of destruction and the Hockey Bots
arena of less destruction with rental bots.
The Gil Coughlin Museum Display,
Drifter car races, a Hill Crawler car track,
the boat pond with lots of action, and
possibly more are still in the planning
stages.
With times getting so tough and our
economy continually getting hit hard,
several of the businesses in our industry are
doing everything they can to continue
bringing us the bits and pieces we require
for keeping our hobby going. We really do
need to support these dealers, so when one
of the sellers at the event makes you an
excellent deal, do not be afraid to give them
a hug of appreciation for helping keep our
hobby going through these trying times.
For more information about the Expo, go
to www.nwmodelhobbyexpo.com. And
above all, make sure you remember the
amazing accuracy of the Weather Stone.
