DISTRICT I continues its mission to
sponsor AMA sanctioned events
that introduce people to the many
enjoyable disciplines within the
sport of aeromodeling. This year I
begin the flying season by sponsoring
two specialty events that I have not
highlighted in the past.
The first of the events will allow
members and spectators to experience
RC Sailplanes and the “tug” aircraft that
tow the Sailplanes to desired altitudes
before they are released for Thermal
Soaring. This Aerotow 2012 event will
be hosted by the RC Propbusters at
the club’s pristine flying site in Salem,
Connecticut.
The event is in its third year and
draws pilots from throughout the
region. Its success is attributed to the
efforts and passions of Len Buffinton,
the founder of www.RCAeroTowing.
com, and Steve Pasierb, the flying site’s
director.
The second AMA District I-sponsored
event is an International Miniature
Aerobatic Club (IMAC) event hosted
by the Connecticut Model Airplane
Club in Plymouth, Connecticut. If you
have an interest in Scale Aerobatics, you
will have an opportunity to see some
of the region’s best pilots competing in
various classes of aerobatic competition
and individual freestyle performances.
To learn more about IMAC, visit
www.mini-iac.com or contact Erik
Haakosen, the CD and organizer of
IMAC events in this area.
Try introducing RC Sailplane Soaring
and IMAC activities to your club. It
may result in a lifelong aeromodeling
passion for some club members.
