AMA Flying Site Development Improvement Grant Program

The AMA Flying Site Development Improvement Grant program helps fund AMA Chartered Clubs that have spent or intend to spend money on flying site improvement projects. A portion of AMA member dues is used to fund this program, which provides grants that cover up to 10% of a project’s cost, with awards up to $5,000.

This year, 18 clubs from 10 districts applied for grants, requesting a total of $17,487. That amount was less than the available funds, so each club that applied was awarded a grant.

District I Award

In District I, only one club applied: R/C 1/4 Scale Modelers of Rhode Island. The club was awarded the second-highest grant of $3,500. Congratulations to the club and all of its members for taking on this ambitious project.

The flying site was moved because buildings and power lines were encroaching on the runway, making it difficult to fly and to attract new members. The club funded the project with $300 from each member, plus the AMA grant. The club may be able to return the members’ contributions in the future through expected increased income from new memberships.
