EACH YEAR the district officers and I try
to sponsor a variety of popular flying events
including at least one open-class fun-fly and
air show and two or more specialty events.
You should be reading this column just
about the time of the Wintonbury AMA
District I Sponsored Electric Fun-Fly & Air
Show, June 21-22, 2008.
The Wintonbury Flying Club in
Bloomfield, Connecticut, has one of the best
flying sites with both grass and paved
runways. If you have an interest in electric
aircraft, join us at this event.
If your interests lie with open flying of all
types of aircraft and you want a district event
that includes activities and entertainment for
the entire family, then you definitely want to
join us at the University of Rhode Island
Balloon Festival for the South County RC
Club’s Fun-Fly & Air Show. The event is
July 19-20, 2008, in Kingston, Rhode Island.
For festival information, visit the District I
Web site at www.amadistrict1.com.
Hang on to your seats! We decided to
cosponsor our third district event with none
other than District I’s own Elie Houyes, aka
“Snap A Saurus,” and the Woodstock R/C
Flyers to bring the legendary FlyingGiants
to the Northeast for three days of insane
extreme 3-D flying.
Most of you have heard of a “Huckfest”
referring to sporting activities involving the
best performers exploiting the maximum
capabilities of their equipment and skills
doing extreme stunts.
Huckfest events in mountain biking,
skiing, skate boarding, and, in the last few
years, in extreme 3-D RC aircraft flying are
thrilling to experience and see.
The 2008 FlyingGiants Huckfest Series
is described as a celebration of modeling
that focuses on good times, good people,
and the good vibe of FlyingGiants. 3-D
pilots from around the country will be
attending and flying at this exciting event.
If you have the skills, 3-D aerobatic
aircraft, and want to participate as a pilot, or
if you are just wanting to watch this extreme
3-D flying show, then join us at the
Woodstock Airport, Woodstock,
Connecticut, August 1-3 2008.
For additional information on this event,
visit www.flyinggiants.com and search
“huckfest.”
